We are energetic beings.

Problems:

We're getting band-aid solutions.

Sad but true, our modern medical system is not configured for real healing.

Most of what is labeled as mental health illness is the result of poor life coping skills, unresolved trauma and living in a culture that does not acknowledge nor understand our spiritual layers. Doctors don’t have the time nor the training to tackle this big, deep stuff. Assigning you a diagnosis + giving you a prescription for pills is the easiest, quickest solution. You’re in and out in 30 minutes. 

But that’s not a REAL solution! Pills can’t heal our childhood wounds or teach us coping skills or address disaster relationships or help us find our life’s purpose. They’re just a band-aid. They blunt some of the discomfort but the root problems of suffering keep festering deep inside your soul. 

Mental health drugs should not be a forever plan.

Doctors don’t give discontinuation plans, so a prescription can feel like a lifetime sentence.

You go to the doctor saying you’re sad, mad, frustrated, stressed! That lands you a big-deal diagnosis like depression, anxiety, mania, ADHD, bipolar, schizophrenia, personality disorder, etc (this list can go on and on)… plus a matching prescription.

The doctor doesn’t talk to you about how this diagnosis can be healed, so it feels like it’s your new identity. There’s no discussion about drugs being a temporary solution, so it feels like you’ll be taking them for the rest of forever. This happened to me too: I got a diagnosis of bipolar disorder at the age of 12. I believed I was fundamentally broken and had to be medicated for the rest of my life.

The goal of this website is not to villainize mental health drugs. They can be a really useful tool on the path to healing! Maybe taking drugs for a short period might be what helps you calm down so you can address major issues and tackle healing with a stable system. That is a GREAT use of mental health drugs and it gets my total endorsement! But should you take them forever? NO!  

They’re really blockers that steal your spark.

You simply cannot manifest your most potent, powerful self-expression when on mental health drugs.

Do you know how mental health drugs work? They block your brain and shut down your nervous system. Many of them even have the word “inhibitor” in the title! Maybe that’s a relief in the midst of a crisis, but it’s no way to live long-term.

The drugs don’t just take away uncomfortable feelings; they block you from feeling your full range of emotions. They change who you fundamentally ARE. You lose creativity, drive, your personal magic! Your spark fades, you end up being disassociated, permanently blunted, in a meds fog.

And these are complicated substances that work on your central nervous system, so you’re probably dealing with other system-wide side effects too, right? Your sleep cycles, digestion, appetite, mood, concentration, muscle movement, sexual function and so much more can be impacted. I know, it’s frustrating!

Hope:

Real healing is really possible.

You’re literally hardwired to heal. You just have to decide to do it.

You have NEUROPLASTICITY, which is a fancy name for the brain’s ability to adapt, change and grow. You can learn how to regulate your nervous system to be in a state of permanent calm instead of a state of permanent panic. You can train your brain! 

When we are suffering from mental madness, it can feel like our emotions are running the show. One of the most spectacular things about real healing is that you take back control. Now you have tools to calm yourself down. You get a choice before you react. You are prepared to deal with difficult situations with grace. You do not have to be a victim of your crazy.

Maybe it’s not as scary as you think.

I was so scared to go off my mental health drugs. I was worried I wouldn’t be able to do life without them. What would happen?

Once I actually achieved my meds detox, I was shocked to discover that I am JUST FREAKING FINE. I am better than fine! I feel great! I began sleeping well for the first time in my whole life. I can think straight, my spiritual connection has deepened, my relationships have improved. It feels miraculous! But…

You know that movie The Truman Show? Where Jim Carrey realizes one day that all his life he’s been living in a constructed world that isn’t real? That’s how I felt. All of my life I’d believed I was fundamentally broken and needed meds to mange my crazy. It turns out that was a big, fat LIE that held me back, kept me small and controlled me from the inside. That makes me feel angry, indignant!

I don’t want the same thing to happen to you. Maybe you don’t have anything to be afraid of either. Maybe you too are JUST FINE. And you really don’t have anything to lose, because those drugs will always be there if you want to go back to them.

Mental freedom is for the brave rebel heroes.

In order to heal, I had to claim control of my life, declare the drugs were not working and find my own alternate solutions. I’m a mental health rebel.

This is a classic hero’s journey. You choose the path less traveled, the one full of treasures untold, the one that requires hard work but pays off with the biggest reward: your mental freedom! On this journey you’ll discover wisdom in your shadows, illumination in your mind and love in your heart. Stunning synchronicities will occur. Aligned humans will enter your life. When you do the work, the universe shines on you, offering encouragement to light the path. It’s a beautiful adventure.

Like any true hero, you’ll emerge transformed, with the boon of your own divine soul shining free, ready to share your gifts with the world. 

I did it. And so can you. The sooner you start, the sooner you can be living mentally free!

Solutions:

Going from mental suffering to mental freedom requires a mindset makeover, behavioral changes and new energetic hygiene. And you can do it! Here’s how to do the work to achieve real healing: 

Mindset Makeover

Here are my three healing pillars for mental freedom. They all start in the mental realm but require real action 😉 

1. Practice fierce self-care

Your one REAL job in this lifetime, the job that never goes away until the day you die, is to take care of YOU! How are you doing? Are you well, happy, healthy?

Often, this healing pillar starts with loving yourself and embracing your sweet inner child. That means you must be compassionate and encouraging to your own self. No cruel inner voices! Fierce self-care means reparenting yourself and making the BEST choices for your genuine wellbeing so you can really thrive. That might mean better health choices to support your system. That might mean setting boundaries so that relationships and work are nurturing.

Care for yourself as only you know how.

2. Claim your life

Rebel heroes are NOT victims.

It’s a bit of a mind bender to go from believing you are a victim of your crazy and that pills can fix you to… everything in your life is solely your responsibility and only you have the power to fix you. When you claim your life, you start calling the shots.

You declare YOU know YOU better than all the doctors and all the therapists (definitely better than me) and YOU make the best decisions for your wellbeing. You must claim radical total responsibility for your life, even if it’s in total shambles!

Then you take action to make improvements. That can be as small as cleaning out your closet to as big as chasing a new career dream. Do what you can with what you’ve got! 

3. Accept divine perfection

Tragedy touches all of us at some point in a lifetime. Suffering is simply part of the human package: wars, pandemics, death. This is big LIFE that’s out of our individual control.

Our only recourse is to truly LET GO and flow with tragedy. These are the moments when we must trust in divine perfection. Even if we don’t understand, we can maintain faith that the universe is perfect and it does not make mistakes.

If we’re able to surf the waves of disaster with grace, blessings will emerge. The “worst” things that happen in our lives can be the catalysts for massive growth. You can make exquisite art out of your pain! So trust. Trust that even if you don’t understand when you’re in the thick of it, opportunities will be born in the ashes.

Energy Work

Learn to move your energy with intention! Mental freedom requires that you incorporate energy work into your life in these two ways:

1. A daily practice

This is a time and space when and where you practice your preferred energy movement modality on the daily. Because what you do frequently affects your frequency 😉

In your practice, you are training your brain how to be calm in the present moment, without worries about the past or the future. So when something wild happens your brain now knows this calm vibration and can more easily return to it.

Plus, this gives you a space to regularly experience big feelings! If you’re upset and need to cry or scream or punch a pillow, you have a dedicated safe space and time to do that. Instead of carrying emotions around with us at the brink of explosion all the time, we clear them out. A daily practice makes you a clean energetic channel, a person who is in the flow!

AND energy work is amazingly effective for manifesting because it allows you to access and reprogram your subconscious mind. 

 

2. Crisis coping techniques

Eventually something is bound to happen that will trigger a big response in your system. It could be explosive rage or a teary meltdown or a system collapse. Now what do you do?

You must be able to use energy work techniques to get yourself back to a calm, neutral state again. Personally, my favorite crisis energy movement tools are EFT tapping and alternate nostril breathing. I’ve been known to excuse myself and hide in the bathroom breathing on the edge of the bathtub until I can calm down enough to return to the scene. What do YOU do when you’re REALLY upset?

Energy work can be your lifeline to help you manage yourself and calm your system in these critical moments!

After the crisis has passed, it’s a time to practice extra self-care because you remain delicate until you’re able to fully process the outburst. Giving yourself time to safely digest an incident also means you have an opportunity to learn from it.

A hug can be more healing than a thousand words. The loving energy of others helps us to flourish.

If you’re on a healing journey, finding other like-minded beautiful souls is an essential component. So you can cry together and laugh together. So that you feel seen, heard and understood. So you can listen to someone else’s stories and remember that life is bigger than your own problems. So you can witness human resilience and feel it awaken within you too. So that you’re needed.

For the hugs. Even if they’re long-distance heart hugs sent via the ether over zoom, we need them.
